Quote of the Day

Today's quote is brought to you by that fantastic madman.

America is the only country that went from barbarism to decadence without civilization in between.

--Oscar Wilde

Talk to me, Mr. Stearns

A couple of weeks ago I wrote a post about Project Vote Smart and mentioned that I'd written to my district's (very conservative Republican) Congressman, Cliff Stearns, to ask him a couple of questions, namely why he voted against funding for public broadcasting and why he has repeatedly refused to take the National Political Awareness Test. (One might be tempted to think that he's a little reluctant to actually state clearly and for the record his, uh, unwavering stand on the big issues facing our society....hmmm.)

Well, two weeks later and I've still gotten no response, so I wrote him again:

Hello Mr. Stearns,

This is my second attempt to contact you by email. In an effort to educate myself as a voter, I would respectfully ask that you respond to these two questions:

1) Why did you vote against funding public broadcasting?
2) Why have you refused numerous requests by Project Vote Smart to take the National Political Awareness Test?
<!--
3) Why are you a scum-sucking, closed-minded, ass—....uh, nix that, I didn't really say that. Heh.
-->

I know you are busy; I do not intend to engage you in an email pen pal correspondence. Your response would be appreciated. Thank you.

Sincerely,
Jon Worth

I was tempted to add a mention about my vote counting and that I'd be "watching" him or something like that, but figured he might assume I was some sort of cyber-stalker (and I've had enough of that from someone else lately).

This is probably a pointless exercise, but what the hell. I'm not even going to get into this guy's voting record on this post, it's just too depressing.

Okay, chin up.

Hey! Take action! Why not write your Congressperson? This is still supposedly a government by the people and of the people, right?
