Check Your Political Compass

This is a nifty test to see where you stand on a socio-economic scale.

I'm chilling in the lower left corner with Gandhi, the Dalai Lama and Mandela.

Quotes From the GOP About the Bosnian War

Hey all you arch-right Kerry bashers, don't you dare lecture anyone about "flip-flopping."

Hypocrites.

Musings on Cindy Sheehan's Blog

I've spent some time reading antiwar protester Cindy Sheehan's blog this evening. As could be expected, her firebrand prose incites a wide range of comments from people of all opinions and political affiliations. This comment in particular caught my eye (paragraphs inserted and boldface provided by me):

Cindy, this is what Bush will never say: The US had to establish permanent bases in that god forsaken region in order to gain control of their oil reserves before the China-Russia machine got their hands on it, because once UN sanctions were lifted Saddam sure wouldn't sell that oil to us. And because Saddam had shifted from the dollar to the euro, the US economy would have been ruined.

Plus, if we're in a positon to threaten Iran (China's main oil supplier), China is much less likely to bomb Taiwan. And Israel is safer when we have permanent bases snugged up to Syria.

He'd probably like to thank you for making it politically more expedient to drop the Iraqi people to suffer in a bloody cesspool of a country. After the permanent bases are established, Iraq's 'democracy' is expendable. So 50-60,000 US military will be relatively safe within impervious bases forever more, but we have to keep the pretext going just a little longer. But expect Bush to use you like his own whore and blame you for their withdrawal before democracy could be established.

The PNAC crowd found in Bush someone who could stomach the slaughter of thousands of innocents. They believe that by taking this action, they have saved the US from economic ruin and war with China over Taiwan, which would make this war look like a day in the park. But Bush can't say that, can he? That's the noble cause your beloved son died for. And that's why the Democrats have swallowed their tongues- they know. Bush lies and treats us like children who can't understand that as the truth, because it's not just unconstitutional, wrong on so many levels and immoral, but a bloodbath and a crime.

The best you can do is energize your message to 'embarrass' them into properly caring for our military and those hapless Iraqis. (Please. My nephew is in Iraq.) This is their 'Plan A'. If they have to resort to 'Plan B' that means our standard of living is gone forever, and you may have to fight to even keep your tent.

God bless you. I am a 48 year old, 6' tall mother of two boys (23 & 21) and a 3 year old daughter. My husband tells me to quit worrying about this stuff and worry about how we're going to pay for our daughter's college, but I don't think it's going to be that simple anymore.

An interesting point of view...

Cindy Sheehan's Blog

I don't agree with everything this woman has to say but she has my sympathy and, to some extent, my support. Here's her blog.

Here are some cool and informative interactive graphics about Iraq. They feature key events, ethnic groups, maps, political groupings, a who's-who, and even the Iraqi Constitution!

Some of the material is available only to subscribers to the site, but you can click around and check out the free stuff.
